Designs in nature are beautiful because they had the opportunity to evolved over many years. The most important aspects of design may be:
Simplicity and functionality
Reliability and robustness
Aesthetics and association
Cost and energy
Planning philosophy for creators
Think ahead, but do not overplan on details (Why Overplanning Can Be Dangerous).
Creating something new cannot rely entirely on an existing process because it is new.
Diverge and converge at all relevant levels multiple times to achieve a professional balanced design.
Try to postpone the engineering of solvable details until they are actually needed.
